Bringing Towhee into the Real World
Welcome to Useful Bias.
We sell services related to the MCCCS Towhee molecular simulation package.

What is MCCCS Towhee?
MCCCS Towhee (or Towhee for short) is a Monte Carlo molecular simulation package that was originally designed for vapor-liquid coexistence simulations,
but has subsequently expanded to a wide variety of fluid phase simulations. A full manual and the complete software package is freely available at the
MCCCS Towhee SourceForge website.
The software is free so what does Useful Bias sell?
Towhee is free, the source code is included, and every effort is made to make it easy for people to learn how to use Towhee and modify it for their
own purposes. Useful Bias was founded in response to previously unfulfilled demand from the user community for new features, new forcefields,
and direct assistance in getting specific, complicated simulations built and running. All modifications to the Towhee source code are contributed back
to the whole user community, but confidential assistance with specific, proprietary applications is also available.
The source code is available so why wouldn't people just modify it themselves?
Some people do and those who show ability and interest are welcome to join the Towhee development team and get full access to the CVS archives. However,
the majority of the current Towhee developers are academics and they modify the software because it is in their mutual interest to add their particular
features to an established and powerful code base. The funding stream and career reward system for academics favors long-term research goals and
the training of graduate students. This is a wonderful system and it is excellent at advancing novel algorithms and applications. However, it is not
well suited for a rapid response to practical requests from industrial or other academic users to implement a previously published force field or
algorithm.
